Starting with the 2026-27 season (fall 2026 registrations, tryouts, and competitions), age groups will shift to an August 1–July 31 cycle. Players will advance to the next age group each August 1—just like moving up a grade in school! Why this change is so exciting for our players and families: - Stronger school-friend connections — More players will train and compete with their classmates, fostering deeper friendships, better team chemistry, and more fun right from day one. - Fewer “trapped players” — The previous January 1 birth-year system could separate kids from grade-level peers during big transitions (like middle to high school). This new approach greatly reduces that and creates a more inclusive, supportive experience. - Boosted development and enjoyment — Social alignment helps players stay in the game longer, build confidence, and truly love soccer. - Play-up flexibility remains — Any play-up decisions will continue to be handled case-by-case by coaches and Directors based on individual ability and readiness. The 2025-26 season remains under the current birth-year system—no changes for this year—so we have a full season to prepare together. Our staff is already planning smooth transitions, team formations, and resources (including official age-group calculators from US Soccer and US Club Soccer—check them out soon on our site or theirs!). This shift comes from years of feedback from families, clubs, and experts like you. The Tophat Select Winter Training Camp is a camp designed to give continuous training to players through the month of January while preparing them for the regular team training that will begin at the end of January in preparation for their spring GA/Aspire/DPL/SCCL seasons. The camp can also be used to ensure that players are prepared for their junior varsity/middle school soccer tryouts. Players are not required to attend every session but are encouraged to attend as many as possible to get the maximum benefit from the training. There will be a heavy emphasis on technical training and small-sided games. The camp will be directed by NTH Tophat Director of Coaching Troy Garner, with assistance from NTH Tophat GA/DPL/SCCL staff. Dear NASATOPHAT Families, It is with profound sadness that we share the loss of one of our academy coaches Shelly Hoddeson. Shelly not only was a great coach but also an outstanding player. She was a part of the GSA 85 team under the leadership of Ted Colburn. This was the first girls team from Georgia to win the National Championship in 2001. Shelly would take her talents to the next level and play at South Carolina and UGA. Shelly approached coaching the same way she played; with hard work, dedication, and positivity. We will miss her on the pitch and everything that she brought to the program and players. As you go about the holiday season we ask that you keep her family, friends and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.
